Lakeshore walks and a rock concert.

As the weather forecast for today suggested that the morning would be better than the afternoon we decided that we had best get some walking in in the morning. We had seen nice lakeshore walks in the Hamilton region so we headed there. We found Van Wagner's Beach  which has about 5km return of restored beaches and sand dunes. It is a very popular place with lots of walkers, cyclists and roller-bladers. In the 1950s this area was a very popular beach resort with funfairs, beach huts etc. - a bit like places in England like Blackpool. Now there is nothing like that because the whole area is being renaturalised. It is lovely there and particularly on a hot, humid day when the breezes from the lake were so welcome.

Nice sculpture along the way, explained below.

One of the murals on the wall of a cafe that wasn't open.

Following the 5km we continued along the water till we reached the waterfront trail (though Van Wagner's is probably part of the waterfront trail) to a snackshack where we had a look at the beach while we had a coffee.

Farther on on the Lakeshore Drive we arrived in Burlington where there was a music festival - Sound of Music Festival. Generally I would avoid such things but we found it easy enough to park and so wandered along to see what was to be seen. There were 3 stages but concerts were not beginning till 1pm. The walk along the waterfront would be very nice on a concertless day but it was even nice today. Jim took a photo of the bridge that we have crossed so many times since we have come here.

The place was packed with food tents and vans - lemonade, ice-cream, poutine, massive deep-fried onions (Remember Oli the one we shared when we were in Chicago?), burgers etc. as well as stalls with souvenirs, clothes and so on.

Was this a warning about road kill?

Obviously a very popular band!

These were quite good but I didn't get the name.

More amateurish!

Jim got rather tired so I left him here to recuperate. He said the pints aren't as good as in Joe Dogs! He got on well with the two ladies but couldn't hear a word they were saying. He blamed the noise of the music but we know better!

A little jazz at lunchtime.

Canada geese farther on on Lakeshore Drive.
