Blooms on Bloom's Day!

As we hadn't had time to go to the Niagara Botanical Gardens the last day, we decided to go today and it was well worth the trip. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and the trees in the parkland are beautifully mature.

The vegetable gardens looked great! There were also herb gardens and a noxious weed garden with skull and cross bone warnings against touching the weeds.

The horse-drawn tour that we didn't take!

Having walked through the gardens we then visited the Butterfly Conservatory which was also very interesting.

These are poisonous black and yellow and green and black frogs. They were in a glass case no we were not risking our lives. I never saw anything like them before. I don't like frogs but these were like toys!
A turtle in the pond.

The above two are the same butterfly. When it opens its wings they are a vivid blue, much nicer than the photo shows.

Moth-eaten butterfly!

Back in the car and off to Fort Erie on a much better day than we last visited.

An American soldier (costumed interpreter) at Old Fort Erie. The fierce fighting of 1814 turned Old Fort Erie into Canada's bloodiest battlefield. The British were defeated and made prisoners of war and the American army took over the Old Fort.

Peace Bridge from Fort Erie to Buffalo, US.
Interesting!

On to Port Colborne and more boat spotting and bridge-lifting spotting.

In all - a very enjoyable day!
