Vancouver part 2

Thursday in Vancouver was another hop on hop off day. We got to Stanley Park which is an evergreen area of 1,000 acres close to Vancouver city. It abounds with wildlife. We saw many black squirrels, lots of Canada Geese and one big family of goslings, lots of birds, turtles on a log in Lost Lagoon and a raccoon!

There really are turtles on this log.

This raccoon was really close to us and facing us so we could clearly see its bandit-masked face. Unfortunately the batteries in the camera were dying so Jim only managed to get the rear view! You can see the rings on the tail.

We saw lots of totems in Stanley Park and some great views of the Lion's Gate Bridge and Vancouver's skyline.

This is a lovely view from Prospect Point in Stanley Park of Vancouver's skyline with Grouse Mountain in the background.

Having walked for about an hour in Stanley Park we hopped on again and went to Gastown where we hopped off again for lunch and a nosey round the area.

This is the Steam Clock which we heard strike one. It is very impressive as it puffs and blows.

This is Gassy Jack standing on his whiskey keg. Behind him is a cowboy boot and hat shop which we enjoyed going through.

This is a sign in the door of a shoe shop. Needless to say we were not enticed to buy any shoes as they would definitely have been mismatched!

We hopped on again and took some more photos and hopped off again at our hotel before heading out to dine.

This is the giant raindrop at Vancouver Convention Centre. It reminds people of the amount of rain that falls in Vancouver - as if they needed to be reminded!

Below is my favourite sculpture in Vancouver. It is statues of laughing Asian men situated at English Bay. they were installed on loan for 2 years before the Olympics but proved so popular that money was raised to buy them and keep them there.
