Embarkation Day
Thursday 17th May 2012. Today is the first full day of the cruise. Checking in for the cruise yesterday was just as time-consuming as at the airport. It was just as well that we accepted Kevin’s offer of a lift to the 9am ferry to Vancouver. (Kevin is Ted’s son-in-law, married to Ted’s daughter, Erin.) We had been considering taking the 11am ferry as there was a bus that would take us directly to the cruise terminal (instead we had to get a taxi from the bus terminal). If we had taken the later ferry, we would have arrived just before disembarkation and would not have had the time to get a real sense of the ship - not that I have as yet. My sense of direction means that I get plenty of exercise looking for my stateroom!
It was wonderful this morning as day dawned to watch the lovely scenery from my bed. The only problem was I had to put on my glasses which is not conducive to dropping off again!
As internet is horrendously expensive you will all have to wait till we get back for detailed posts and photos. I have discovered that I can write it up on Works and then copy and paste. Not sure how long photos will take so they may be few. Have just discovered that they won't upload - sorry!
For dinner we went to the Bordeaux dining room where, after standing in line for 40 minutes we were seated at a table for 8 with a couple from Perth, Sean and Margaret, who are on a 9 week road trip in US and Canada, a newly married couple from U.S. and an elderly couple, Stan and his drama queen wife from Arizona. It was initially quite awkward but we warmed up and quite enjoyed ourselves. After dinner we repaired to the Princess Theatre for the Welcome Aboard Show. We missed the Singers and Dancers - dinner was a long affair - but we got the comedian Kevin Hughes. He was rather strange but did elicit some laughs.
