Points East Coastal Drive Part 1.

The reason this is called Points East Coastal Drive Part 1 is that we got only about one third of the drive done, what with inning and outing to various coves, harbours and bays. We realised today that Prince Edward Island is very flat with the highest point being only 466 ft./142 metres.

View from Tea Hill (which is not a hill).

Tea Hill again.

I thought this former school was cute - Orwell Cove School.

We then went to Belfast where there is a mill store, tea room and textile processing mill. The company is called Belfast Mini Mills Ltd. They manufacture small fibre processing mills for the processing of rare fibres e.g. Alpaca, Llama, Mohair, Qiviut (an Inuit word to denote the wool of muskox - it is particularly soft), Cashmere, not to mention dog and cat!It is a family run business which has been in Belfast, PEI for 20 years. We talked to the Matriarch who was weaving. She then got one of her daughters to show us round the mill and to show us how they processed the raw wool into the final product - wool for knitting or weaving and even finer stuff for lacemaking. It was very interesting. Unfortunately the products in the store were way beyond our budget as handmade luxury items usually are. I was fascinated by the use of dog hair - those white fluffy ones called samoyed, I think. They had tea cosy hats for sale.

Not sure if dog hats suit me or if I suit them!
The wools were beautiful.

An example of the dirt roads of which there are very many on PEI.

The lighthouse at Point Prim.

Lots of purple flowers/weeds growing everywhere.

A tree decorated with lobster floats.

Wood Islands lighthouse (I think).
I liked this sign - genteel and stuff! Murray Harbour.

A church put to new use as you can see below - in Murray Harbour.

I was shocked at this until I realised that they meant it as a joke!

For some reason, they do sandsculptures at lighthouses. Earlier there was one of a lobster but it was damaged.

The lighthouse at Panmure Island

There is golden sand also - both sides of the causeway to Panmure Island

Golden and red sand!

The lighthouse at Montague (I think!).

Harbour at Montague.

And again!

Where 3 rivers meet.
And today's theme was ... lighthouses!
