Charlottetown

Downtown Charlottetown is indeed only 10 minutes walk from Bonnie's cottage and our visit to it has revealed lots of possibilities for dining and for a few drinks without having to take the car. And if the weather stays as it is there will not even be coats to consider. The temperatures today were around 24, 25 C so very pleasant.

No need for a hop on hop off bus here as Charlottetown is quite small and perfectly manageable on foot. It's possible that we would learn more if we did a tour but, for the moment, we don't feel the need. Our first port of call was the ? which is in City Hall along with lots of other offices.

City Hall
They directed us to Province House which is a National Historic Site of Canada. Province House is the birthplace of Confederation and the seat of Prince Edward Island's provincial legislature since 1847. We had a quick tour and saw the Confederation Chamber where the Charlottetown Conference Meetings took place. We also saw the library and the Provincial Legislative Assembly Room where they still meet.

And again.

This is the original furniture which they still use though it has been adapted for modern use with microphones etc.

In 1864 delegates to the famous Charlottetown Conference arrived at the waterfront of Charlottetown Harbour. Today it is the site of Founder's Hall the main ? of the town, a heritage attraction and retail boutique. The "Time Travel Tunnel" brings visitors back to 1864, leading them through the pages of Canadian history. We will visit there another day. In the boutique, I was tempted to buy a hat with red braids to adopt an Anne of Green Gables look but it's a bit windy and I might lose it!

This computer or site or whatever is giving me a lot of bother so I will end this post here and continue later when I get time. It's soo frustrating!
