Venice day 1

Having settled ourselves in Marco's flat/studio we emerged in search of food and drink but were determined not to get lost as tiredness would prevent us from refinding our lodgings. Down the calle and who do we find but Gloria and Pietro enjoying a drink at Le 40 Padrone, a restaurant recommended by Marco.

Of course we joined them for one and were chased at 7pm because they wanted to set up the outdoor tables for dinner. The weather was fantastic - not my mental image of Venice which is more mists and fogs.

Having parted from Gloria and Pietro, we took a walk along Fondamenta deglie Ormesini where Paola had told us we would get our bearings - the metal bridge which we had crossed from Campo Ghetto, the stone bridge at which we take the calle to the bridge to calle del capitello where we are living and the wooden bridge - and there is Paola with friends on the stone bridge. She acknowledges us with a wave and I acknowledge her with a recitation of metal bridge, stone bridge, wooden bridge. That, in fact, has made our orientation really easy. As we walked along we noted the washing lines strung across the canals.

After a pizza along F. deglie Ormesini, we returned chez Marco to plan our tours of Venice.
