Les Gorges du Verdon

Exhausted after a day of extreme sports in the Gorges du Verdon - jumping off cliffs into a lake, sailing, paddle-boating, swimming, cycling, hiking, bungee-jumping and abseiling. And we were only watching!

The Gorges du Verdon are gorgeous - spectacular! It was a heavy day on Jim as he was doing the driving and there were places that were very scary indeed. Between a car that doesn't handle very well and impatient French drivers who insist on passing out at the most dangerous spots, it's no surprise that we both have had several mini heart attacks! However, all is well and we have seen the most spectacular scenery of our trip so far.

First view of Lac de Sainte Croix.

When we arrived here, we were wondering what this pair were doing. It soon became clear - they were going to abseil down

It took there a very long time to get the gear on but we were
determined to stay to see what would happen.

Meanwhile Jim reminisced on his experience of abseiling. It was not on anything as high or sheer as this!

We took some more photos while we waited.

Off he went!

There he is sauntering about!

Doesn't he make it look easy!

We didn't wait to see if the girl would go down but I presume she did as she had the gear on too. What a way to pass a Saturday morning!

Holding on tight to the rail!

La Palud-sur-Verdon as we returned from La Route des Cretes, a trip right along the rim of the canyon. Jim called it Cretins route because of the mad French drivers!

Just about to bungee jump!

Down there!

Hanging by a thread!

These three kept jumping off the cliff into the water and then climbing back up again to do it again!

It took a while for this girl to pluck up the courage to jump but she did! And her mother kept shouting at her to jump - irresponsible or what?

No bother to him!
