Salers by Le Puy Mary route - September 17th 2018

The plan for today was to do the Gorges de Jordanne. When we got there it seemed as if it was only open in the afternoon. However we started the walk down very uneven ground and hadn’t even got to the cabine when I knew that my legs and balance couldn’t take it as it was very steep and very far down, So we turned back and did the Salers par Le Puy Mary route. Scenery was fantastic! Road a bit scary at times!

We got out at Puy Mary and had a look but did not attempt the climb.

This is part of the Tour de France cycle race.

The place rang with the carillon of cow bells. We couldn't see them but could hear them.

We continued on towards Salers, listed among the most beautiful villages in France.  Between Salers and the Col de Neronne there is a Maison du Fromage et de la vache Salers.  It is a traditional shepherd’s hut that sells produce from the region. The second is a small cafe/restaurant that had a menu typique buronniers – jambon and aligot. We did not stay to eat but went on to Salers where we had saucisson de Salers and aligot. It was lovely but rather heavy. The town is really old and quaint.

The Church of St. Matthew.

One of the Aubusson tapestries.

The entombment of Christ - a polychrome stastue dating from 1495.

Some of the Church's treasures.

Then we continued on to Tournemire, also among the miost beaiutiful villages in France, and had a quick look at the castle and church as there was no parking where we stopped.

Chateau d'Anjony.

Then we took the Route des cretes to Aurillac – great views.
