July 20th 2017 -

It was a beautiful morning so we decided to do the Jurassic Coast so that we could see the scenery. On our journey to Weymouth we had great views of Chesil Beach, an 18 mile shingle or pebble beach that rises like a bank and is separated from the mainland by the Fleet Lagoon. When I read On Chesil Beach by Ian Mc Ewan I could never really get a visual picture of the beach. Now I know! It is quite an unusual phenomenon.

We travelled all the way to Portland where we got a much closer view of the bank and then on to Portland Bill.

We stopped at a hotel for a shared cheese plate for lunch and enjoyed the view from there.

On our return journey we had better views of the Jurassic Coast. We continued on to Lyme Regis where we parked in Charmouth Road car park from where we could walk down (114 steps) to the sea front. This is a renovated  path and sea wall opened in 2014. A very pleasant walk though a bit tough on the way up again! We wandered through Lyme Regis and through the nice Jane Austen Gardens and then back to the car. From there we went to Seaton and then to Beer. Back home and I cooked the spare rib pork chops I had bought in the norning at the very good butcher’s.
