July 15th 2017 - Coleton Fishacre; Greenway

Coleton Fishacre consists of a 24 acre garden and a house in the Arts and Crafts style. It is a 1920s house which is very pretty. It was the country home of the D'Oyly Carte family of Gilbert and Sullivan fame. The gardens are lovely to walk in and descend to the coast.

I have to admit that I did not go as far as the coast as it was very steep and a bit rough underfoot. But I had a lovely sit admiring the gardens and a little wander through the woodland.

Our next stop was Greenway. Greenway was the holiday home of Agatha Christie. The house and grounds are very beautiful. The family were great collectors and the house is filled with archaeology, Tunbridgeware, silver, botanical china and, of course, books.

Carol and I took advantage of the deckchairs on the front lawn.

Struggling for inspiration sitting on Agatha Christie's chair outside the boathouse.

The trip to Greenway necessitated a short ferry crossing.
