Belvoir Castle

On Saturday July 2 we made our way from Barmby Moor to Carol and Stephen's house in Sherwood, Nottingham where we spent a few days. Carol wasn't working on Sunday (Stephen was) so off we went to Belvoir Castle, a stately home in Leicestershire overlooking the Vale of Belvoir. Strangely Belvoir is pronounced in the area as Beaver. Belvoir Castle is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland who have an interesting living arrangement. When, in 2012, the Duchess discovered that her husband of 20 years, the Duke, had a long-term mistress, they separated but continued to live in the Castle in different wings. Then, in 2015, it was revealed that the Duchess had fallen in love with the estate manager. Shades of Lady Chatterley's Lover? Anyway, their shenanigans were of no interest to us as we spent the time wandering through the grounds which are very nice.

There are quite a few lovely wooden seats that just beg to be sat upon.

The pet cemetery.

As I write this up there are more shenanigans in the Rutland household. The Duke has managed to amass 24 driving penalty points for speeding in 8 months and has been banned from driving! I suppose he'll just have to employ a chauffeuse with whom there might be even more shenanigans!
