Thursday June 7th 2018 - Hanstein Castle; Bad Sooden Allendorf

Thursday we had planned Castle Hanstein and Werleshausen. This was an absolutely beautiful drive through rolling hills and valleys. It is the typical landscape of northern Hesse. To get to the castle we had to take to country roads of one lane so we were worried about oncoming traffic. We were very fortunate it was very quiet.

Hanstein Castle is a ruined castle, one of the most famous castle complexes in central Germany.

There were some lovely villages and we went as far as Bad-Sooden-Allendorf. This is a really picturesque small town with half-timbered buildings surrounding a beautiful green park.

One of the many fountains in Bad Sooden.

A lovely wool and craft shop.

Then we went on to Heilbad Helingenstadt where we had lunch – actually ice cream.

In Heilbad Heiligenstadt there is an annual carrot king festival. With the words "Rupf, zupf, mohr, mohr, mohr" the ruling king opens the festival.

Can't remember the name of the church.

The carrot king!

Another Church but can't remember the name.
