Ted and Nancy, our first exchangers from Victoria, are on holiday in Perth, Ontario, so we arranged to meet there on Saturday at the home of their friend Barry Phillips. We had a chat and then headed out to an open house (a house that is for sale) as Barry is looking for a new abode. It was strange being in the house under false pretences - much as we'd like to, we will not be buying a house in Canada! We took it all very seriously, though, and investigated every nook and cranny in the house.
Then we headed off to have a look at what is called Cottage Country. Cottage Country is a term used in Canada to describe areas that are popular for recreation and holiday homes. In the Ottawa region Cottage Country is the area around the Rideau Lakes. The counntryside is very lush and green - a bit like Ireland that way. We stopped in a lovely little town called Almonte where we had lunch beside the falls that used to power a mill.

Nancy then brought us to Bass Lake where Ted and his family had a cottage when his children were young. It's a lovely spot. En route, in mid-conversation, Nancy drifted over into the path of the on-coming cars. A shout from Ted, just ahead of Jim, caused her to swerve back to the right hand side of the road where the car rocked from side to side almost toppling over. We had a very narrow escape! Surprisingly, Nancy recovered very quickly and was able to continue driving.
We returned, safe and sound but only just, to Perth. In the lovely park in Perth, on the banks of the River Tay, there was a wedding. It is a lovely setting for such an occasion.
