Rochefort and the Hermione - Saturday September 8th 2018

On Saturday we went to Rochefort to catch up with Danielle etc. The journey took much longer than expected so we arrived a bit late at 12.20. Danielle. Emmanuelle, Jade and William were there plus Dexter and Cookie. We had an aperitif and a lovely lunch – lovely melon, roast of beef with fried baby potatoes, cheese and a strawberry tart. Then we went to the Corderie to see L’Hermione and watch people on the climb of the pretend Hermione. The Hermione was a 12 pounder Concorde class frigate of the French Navy. She became famous when she ferried Lafayette to the USA in 1780 to help the Americans in the American Revolution. She was grounded and wrecked in 1793. In 1997 the construction of a replica ship was commenced in Rochefort. It was completed in 2015 when it made a return voyage to the USA. It is currently docked in Rochefort but makes voyages every year.

It was association day in Rochefort with all the associations hopeful of attracting more members.

Finally it was time to go back to Treize Vents to get an early night for our early start in Puy du Fou next day.
