Monday June 11th 2018 - overnight in Les Rives du Lac, Vittefleur France.

We travelled from Hellenthal on into France where we were staying at Les Rives du Lac near Vittefleur. This is a complex of holiday cottages on the lake with lovely walks.

We went into a town nearby for food.

Jim's plate (starter size) of bulots.

And so, after a comfortable night, on to Cherbourg and from there home. Another exchange holiday successfully concluded!

Sunday June 10th 2018 - on the road and overnight in Hotel Restaurant Hollerather Hof in Hellenthal.

Our hope had been to have breakfast in the cafe up the road but it is closed on Sunday so we set off and stopped at a services area.

Hotel Restaurant Hollerather Hof

I had chosen this hotel because of its recommended restaurant. It was just our luck that the chef had called in sick. However, it was a lovely place, in beautiful country surroundings and the owner recommended some restaurants in a nearby town - Schleiden.

Paintings along the river/canal.

We had a nice drink before going to bed and had a comfortable night. A good choice of hotel!

Saturday June 9th 2018 - Plesse Castle

This was our final day of home exchange in Gottingen. We went to have a look at Plesse Casstle which is close by. It is a restored medieval castle that is now a wedding venue and restaurant. There are great views from it.

Back for a final look at Gottingen.

Some kind of demonstration.

A quick look in St. John's Church.

And goodbye to Gottingen.

Friday June 8th 2018 - Hann Munden; Hemeln.

Friday took us back to Hann Munden where we saw some bits we had missed out on. We went into the Rathaus and saw all the pictures and the hearts from couples who had married there.

We went to St. Aegidies Church which is now a cafe but having had coffee we couldn’t fit another in so only had a peep at the inside. We saw the gravestone of Dr. Eisenbart who died in Hann Munden – we also saw the house where he died.

We listened to the carillon in the markt again and saw the representation of Dr. Eisenbart at work. The song the chimes play has a satirical meaning - “I am Dr. Eisenbart, I cure people in my own way.” Better than the Angelus any day!

Then we went to Hemeln, a small village on the Weser river by crossing on the non-motorised ferry. We lunched at the ferry pub having what Anne and Dan recommended – Strammer Max which is rye bread with a salami like sausage (Jim) or cured ham (me) both topped with fried eggs. It was very interesting and a satisfying lunch in a  beautiful setting. There was a couple about our age lunching beside us. They had arrived by bike. When they were finished they went back to their bikes and seemed to pray and then set off again. I hope they had a safe journey.

When we got home we did a bit of packing and sorting. Then we went into town to see the Aula Maxima in the university but it was closed. Then we spent ages trying to find Prinzenstrasse where we were planning to eat at Szultenburger. It is a very popular spot. You should have seen the size of the schnitzel – I could eat only half of it!

This is a poster of the band Satisfaction that we heard on the evening of culture

we saw a procession heading into St. Michael's for Mass. We were even asked to join them but we declined.
