Day 2 in Reims

Andy was keen that we would visit a champagne house and do a tour so off we went to the house of Pommery for a tour in English while Aurelie and Susie went to the park.

For some reason there is an elephant balancing on its trunk in the Pommery foyer. I wondered if, after our champagne tasting at the end of the visit, we would end up elephants and on our ear as we don't have trunks!

The stairway down to the 18km of cellars. I was rather relieved to discover we were only visiting a selection!

There is a strong connection between the House of Pommery and art. We only saw 1 of the reliefs but Andy assures us there are lots more.

The tour finished with a tasting of a choice of 2 champagnes out of 6. Because there were 3 of us that meant we could taste all six!

Jim and Fionnuala about to have their first champagne of the day - at 11.00 a.m.!! By early afternoon we were in need of a sieste having imbibed the proferred champagne and wine at lunch!

After our nap Aurelie, Susie and the two of us went over to the local venue of the music festival that was on that day. Andy was oractising for his performance that night which was on too late for us oldies. We enjoyed ourselves watching Susie "dance" and try to somersault. Aurelie was working next morning so we said our goodbyes that night. The following morning Andy was shocked to discover that he had to be at work by 9.30 instead of the 2p.m. he had thought. So a hasty goodbye to him too and on the road to Walldoef.
