Final day in Trieste

After our very tiring day in Verona  (1st October) we had no plans other than getting the packing done and the apartment cleaned for our departure on Thursday. Jim made numerous trips to the car in the carpark and finally we were all packed except for our overnight bag which we needed for our night in Bologna. We went over to our local - Bar Nico - for a coffee and to say goodbye to Nico.

We finally took a photo of the man with the suitcase that we walked past any evening we went to Bar Nico for an aperitif

We also took some photos of the building in which our apartment was.

We had bus tickets for 2 journeys so we went into Trieste in the late afternoon for an aperitif at the Café of Mirrors - overpriced and not that impressive. While there we noticed some military activity but did not manage to find out what was going on.

Tents were being set up along the water front so we had to enquire at the Tourist Office what was going on. It seems it was in preparation for a regatta that would attract more than 4000 yachts. As it started on Friday we were going to miss it. There was a lot of activity along the waterfront and even a bride and groom who were getting their photos taken in typical Trieste scenes.

We wandered about listening to some buskers until sunset when Jim got some photos of Piazza Unita and the sea.

Gloria and Piero had recommended a restaurant called La Voliga so we were having our final meal out in Trieste there. We took the bus and then walked to the restaurant that Jim had found on one of his reconnaissance missions. Fortunately he had because I doubt if we would have been able to find it. This restaurant has won numerous awards for its fish and especially for its fish soup. It is a rather quaint place and we allowed the owner to select 2 courses for us. They were very good.
