On Sunday May 27th
we got up early in Leuven, cleaned and tidied and set off shortly
after 10am for Gottingen. The weather was very hot – 29 degrees.
After a stop for petrol and breakfast and a short lunch stop we
arrived at the home of Anne and Daniel Whybrew. Our instructions were
to get a key either from house 6f or 6h. We found h first but the
lady there told us she didn’t have a key. But she was able to point
out our house 6c and 6f where we did get a key. We let ourselves in
to a house with many floors. We loaded our luggage through the garden
which has an entrance just across from where our parking place was.
It was a lot easier than doing it through the front. The kitchen was
on the same level as the hall door but is like a mezzanine to the
living room, on garden level. Above the living room is a study and
office and above the kitchen one flight up from the office is the
main bedroom and bathroom. Above the office and one flight up from
the main bedroom is another big bedroom. To the right of that is a
bed sitting room and to the left a bed sitting room. Below the living
room one flight down is a bed sitting room and beside that another
shower room and one flight down from that is the laundry room and a
store room. Beside the hall door is a toilet. Basically 7 floors!
One of our first jobs was to get connected to the wifi – 50 figures
to enter. Several mistakes were made but I finally got the laptop
connected and my tablet. However, it has proven impossible to connect
either of our mobiles. A lot of time was wasted and as a consequence
we didn’t go in to Gottingen to look round as we had originally
planned because the thunder had started and we were expecting heavy
showers.
The people from
Belgium had bought in some salad etc for us and had taken Anne’s
casserole from the freezer so we had lots of food for that evening.
There is a seated area in the garden which is partly covered and we
sat out for our evening meal. It thundered and lighteninged and
finally a most welcome heavy shower came. We sat on because of the
cooler air. Then we watched the first episode of Game of Thrones and
then went to bed.
