September 17th - Kinderdijk and Dordrecht

Willem and Cilia have a number of old fashioned record players in very good condition.

It was a relief to see good weather so we went to Kinderdijk, a village in the South Holland province known for its iconic 18th century windmills. The countryside en route was remarkably scenic despite being so flat - very green with lots of water and little bridges to the houses. We had to take a ferry to Kinderdijk - euro 2.75 for a very short crossing. It was a fiver to park. We had coffee in a souvenir shop and then took a walk along the canals to see the windmills.

People still live in some of these. You might think they all look the same but there are subtle differences between them.

Then we went to Dordrecht, an ancient Dutch city surrounded by wide rivers.  It has some very beautiful buildings.

We went to the Grote Kirk, the Great Church or Church of Our Lady and admired the stained glass, some of which represent the history of Dordrecht. It’s a Dutch Reformed Church. It is quite impressive but I prefer the one in Gouda.

This was a beautiful altar cloth.

Back out in town we wandered about admiring buildings etc.

All in all we had a lovely day and enjoyed both Kinderdicht and Dordrecht.
