Day 7 - Trinidad - March 2nd 2017

After breakfast which included a type of ham and cheese toasted sandwich instead of the ubiquitous omelette all 4 of us (Sarah was feeling much better) headed out around Trinidad as we had most of the day to ourselves.

Trinidad is Cuba's best-preserved colonial town with brightly coloured buildings and cobbled streets that can be treacherous to walk on for the likes of me.

The steps in the Plaza Mayor - an open air music venue every night.

We went into this church for a look round and Jim was attracted by the notice he could see out the side door. It must be all the rum!

Just to give you a better sense of the cobbled streets. Some are in much worse condition than this.

Jim is always on the lookout for these boys.

We spent some time at the steps in Plaza Mayor sipping mojitos (so early in the morning - such decadence!) and listening to the music which was more to Jim's liking than ours.

There were a lot of handcrafts on sale. Some nice crochet.

Charlotte had researched some restaurants in Trinidad so we settled on La Redaccion which turned out to be very good. We had a lovely light lunch of tapas and dips and bread. It was a beautiful old hotel.

We had to ask about the Irish flag and it turned out that the owner's girlfriend (or boyfriend?) is from Ireland and the flag waws to mark the visit of our President, Michael D. Higgins, to Cuba the week before.

The bathroom was huge!

We went back to our B&B for a little rest before meeting up with the others at 4pm to go to the beach.

As you can see this was another house where the daughter had reached her 15th birthday. Her aunt was so proud of her that she showed us the photo album.

Cars break down often here.

We sat out for a while on the rooftop from where there was a nice view.

A little altar in a nook in the B&B.

The beach was very popular with locals and tourists alike. I repaired to the outdoor bar for a beer as the others went swimming.

And we watched the sun go down enjoying sundowners provided by Alexis and Yadian.

Alexis and Yadian

It was amazing how quickly the sun went down.

It was time for dinner so we expected a treat ahead as we were going to a fish restaurant in a fishing village. I'm afraid we were not terribly impressed.

Andrea really enjoyed the music and, needless to say, she did a bit of dancing!

And then back to the B&B where we had drinks on the roof terrace with ice provided by the Senor.
