August 19th 2019 - tour of Chiemsee lake; August 20th; August 21st - Teggernsee and Garmische Partenkirken

After breakfast I had to write an email to Dr. David with my blood pressure readings and that took quite a while. While I was doing that Carmen called to collect things from the garage. I asked about her daughter but she was very close to tears as her daughter had been close to death during the night. They think she has Hanta disease, a very dangerous viral disease that is spread by rodents.

We went into town to the Rathaus where they spoke very little English. They gave us some suggestions of places to visit. We had coffee in the bakery and shared a cake - delicious. Then we took a scenic route around Chiemsee, a freshwater lake, often called the Bavarian Sea,  near Rosenheim. It was quite lovely with the Alps as a backdrop. Again parking was a problem so we will go back another day.

The following day we had planned to go to Dachau and we did drive there but it was raining very heavily and the car park was being repaired and we would have had to walk quite a distance in the rain. So we put that off too to another day. So back to Ebersberg and lunch/cake in cafe Schlieger. Then we went on a tour of the little villages round about.

On the 21st we went to Teggernsee, a town on the Teggernsee lake. we had a nice walk along the edge of the lake - a very popular place. Then we travelled around the lake and found the place that Patti had recommended. She had suggested that we have coffee or lunch outside there as it had fantastic views from above Teggernsee. However, it was a bit cold and cloudy to sit out so we went into the restaurant where we had a very expensive lunch - chanterelle risotto for me and  pork roast and dumplings for Jim. It was excellent, especially Jim's.

From Teggernsee we went to another lake where we had another nice walk and then on to Garmische Partenkirken - a really beautiful town. It is a German ski resort near the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak which is very close to the Austrian border.

In all a lovely day with beautiful scenery and lots of Bavarian charm.
